Hi! Guten tag! I am a third-generation American. But, my Great-grandfather, Friedrich Bernhardt Koschmann, was born in 1845 in Eutritztsch Leipzig, Germany, and emigrated alone to Baltimore, MD, and then to Chicago, IL, and then up to Wausau, Wisconsin. But, WE American Koschmann's have found others from Australia, and other parts of the now United Germany. Can anyone help me? I KNOW he had relatives "back home". Can anyone help me? Horst - I noticed a poem on your website, "Ich mag Hamburg". I have a good friend that named his boat, a Flying Scot, Hummel-Hummel. He is from Hamburg, Germany. Many years ago, I asked him why he had named the boat "Hummel-Hummel". His response was that children in Hamburg used to make fun of the people that would deliver water to their homes. The children would cry "Hummel-Hummel. The delivery person would respond with the phase "Mors-Mors". I noticed these phrases in the poem on your website. I don't speak German, so I was wondering whether you had a translated version of the poem or whether you would take a few minutes to translate it for me. Thanks!
